Abstract

Al-Mubarak bin Kamil Abi Ghaleb Al-Khaffāf was a distinguished historian whose contributions to Islamic history are significant. The study delved into his life and work. This study aims to study his lost work titled "Muʿjam al-Shyūwkh," which contains unique biographies found only in this source. This study adopted a historical methodology that involved collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing data from primary sources, including previous, contemporary, and later historians. It criticized the earlier research by highlighting his works in other sources that overlooked his citations. The most significant findings reveal that Al-Mubarak Al-Khaffaf's Muʿjam al-Shyūwkh is a primary source for Baghdad elites and scholars during and after his lifetime. Contemporary and subsequent sources extensively cite his work, making it a crucial source for comprehending Islamic history and bridging the gap in modern scholarship. This study extends knowledge of Baghdad's heritage during the VI century Islamic calendar by providing the names of scholars overlooked in other sources. This study first gathered the dispersed parts of this book referenced in subsequent sources.
